What comes to your mind when you hear the word majesty?

Chances you will say: king, kingdom, throne. glory.

The Hebrew word for majesty is hod, which means strength, splendour, and honour, but it also means authority and physical vitality. There is another Hebrew word for majesty and it is adar, which means wide, great, vast, high, noble. In the New Testament, the Greek word for majesty is megaleiotes, from which the word mega (huge, greater than anything) came. This word was used by Peter in his epistle when he was witnessing the transfiguration of Jesus (2 Peter 1:16) and thus Thayer defined this word as the visible splendour of the divine majesty as it appeared in the transfiguration of Christ.

While all those words are true in depicting majesty and His majesty, I want to share another aspect of His majesty.

A few years ago, as I was worshipping the Lord during my prayer time, I was meditating upon this word majesty, and in my spirit, I saw the throne room in Heaven, and the Lord was seated there. Every creature was worshipping Him but my gaze was fixed on the Lord. The whole atmosphere was glorious but I felt like my heart was drawn to something else. I was searching and searching and finally, it dawned on me that it was the humility of the Lord.

His humility was so tangible as if you could touch it. With every creature worshipping Him, He was not arraying Himself in that nor was He taking in the moment, if you know what I mean. He knew He was the King, and He was aware of the worship, and He took His place as the King well, but in all those things, He was so humble. I will never forget that encounter.

I began to understand what He said in the gospel of Matthew chapter twenty:

25 But Jesus called them unto him, and said, Ye know that the princes of the Gentiles exercise dominion over them, and they that are great exercise authority upon them.

26 But it shall not be so among you: but whosoever will be great among you, let him be your minister;

27 And whosoever will be chief among you, let him be your servant:

28 Even as the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.

Everything in His kingdom is the opposite of this world and Jesus shared that word because He knew that all of us would be kings and priests in Him once we are saved. We will be ruling and reigning with Him for eternity, and we are learning how to rule and reign in this current life right now.

What being a king and a priest means

Once I was facing a challenge and I was quite discouraged by how slow, almost stagnant, justice moved. The next morning, I woke up to this word, “I am the King of justice” in my spirit. I remember receiving this very word a few years before but I was not sure so I checked my phone where I recorded all the prophetic words spoken over me, and true enough those exact words were there. I knew the Lord was trying to tell me something.

As I began my quiet time with the Lord, my mind was still playing the things I was unhappy about like a broken tape. Then I heard the Lord’s voice within me, “Don’t complain, love, tell me how you want this to be fixed, I am the King of justice. What would you have me do?”

I finally understood what the Lord was trying to tell me, and immediately I was reminded about the abundance of favour I had with Him and the story of Esther came into my mind. So doing what the Scripture says in the book of Hebrews 4:16 to enter His throne of grace with confidence, by the blood of Jesus, I began picturing that in my spirit. I then saw the Heaven’s throne room, Father and the Lord were seated there. I was sitting next to the Lord and the issues in my life were being brought up to the Lord one after another.

On each issue, the Lord would look at me and ask for my counsel, what I thought should be done, treating me like His royal counsellor. He genuinely cared about my advice and even valued it. Thus I responded and gave my counsel for each issue on what I thought justice would look like, what good to be done, and what changes to be made, going point by point with careful thinking and assessment. And just like that I understand that this is prayer, this is making intercession to the Lord.

The Lord listened to my counsel intensely and He was very calm and did not seem to be surprised at my counsel, in fact, He looked almost agreeing to it. He would then move on to the next issue and the process would repeat. When all the issues were all brought up, He then asked me about my desires and petitions, so I brought them up too, one after another, telling the Lord what I wished to see happen, again with the awareness of His ways and His heart for me. And I understood this was what Paul taught the church in Philippi:

Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.

And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

At the end of it all, I saw the Lord granting all my desires and petitions, and took heed to my counsels, seeing that they were aligned with His will and His heart for me as found in the Scripture, and He gave me the authority to declare them.

By the time the session was finished, I realised it was almost an hour since I started – and I enjoyed every minute! I told myself I sure would love to pray more often!

Clothed with majesty

The Lord before He went to the cross told the disciples to ask anything in His name after He had been glorified (resurrected from the dead), for He would ask the Father and grant their petition. Asking in His name means asking in the place of the Son because once you are saved your life is hid in Christ (Colossians 3:3), and the Father always bears witness (answers) to the Son.

This is what Elisha in the Old Testament had, and yet he was only a type for the real thing, which is you and I who are in Christ, we are the sons of God, literally. Having been made righteous by the blood of Christ, we now have peace with God, meaning we are God’s people, we have a covenant with Him, God, who is now our Father is on our side now, God is for us. That is why whatever we ask for in the name of Jesus, as if we are Jesus Himself, asking as the beloved son and asking things Jesus would Himself ask, the answer is yes and amen.

This is the majesty we who are in Christ are clothed with. As Jesus is so are we in this world (1 John 4:4). As Jesus is righteous, we are righteous. As Jesus is beloved, we are beloved. As Jesus is meek and humble, we are meek and humble. As Jesus is just, we are just. We have been made one with the Lord and we have the mind of Christ (1 Corinthians 2:16).

Having this revelation of who we are now and what we have as the sons of God, I pray that you will be encouraged to come to His throne of grace and ask. And ask not just for yourself, ask on behalf of the people you love, ask for your pastors and leaders, ask for your nation, ask for the issues in the world. Let us use the majesty that He has given us for the things that God cares for. Then pray and ask as Jesus would pray and ask, being confident of the Father’s heart for you, and know for sure that His answer for you is yes. In Jesus' name, amen.
